Prolouge: So It Begins...

"I am standing in for Lieutenant Harper. She is unavailable. Engineering duties." Kathleen explained, looking at Owen with an 'I'm staying here whether you like it or not' look.

[Ensign Alyeska]

Xanta acknowledged the captain with another nod and glanced around the room. She spotted Jonus and decided to sit across from him.

Owen raised his eyebrow up a little further. "Engineering duties?" he repeated quietly. He let out a small old man's sigh. He would have to have a word with his chief engineer, he most probably told Kathleen to tell her what he had said. "Very well Crewman, you may join us...this time" he said slowly.

Kathleen nodded, and moved to a spot against the wall. Sam nodded to a chair. "You can sit."

Kathleen turned to look at him. "I prefer to stand."

"Or...you can stand." Sam muttered, turning to pay attention to the Captain.

Jonathon smiled as a few of the crew came into the mess hall. Yay... It's not lonely ol' me in here... at least for now, he thought to himself. He walked over to them to see if they wanted anything.

On the bridge, Baro'Garen was bored out of her mind. She glanced at the chronometer on her console and and groaned on the inside. Twenty more minutes until my shift is over. Things are so boring right now. I wish I had some holodeck time, then I'd have something to look forward to. At least I got to see the senior officers go to the meeting, she thought, folding her arms across her chest.

Owen glanced at Kathleen and then at each of his officers. "Now we've been ordered ahead of schedule to proceed to the Leviathan system where a medical vessel, the USS Gale will need escort. I was not told where we were escorting her however we will recieve that information when we get there, but what i do know is that we'll be travelling close to the Cardassian border" Owen stopped to see if there were any questions or comments before he continued.

When the captain started talking, Xanta's attention was focused on him. When he mentioned the Cardassians, she clenched her jaw unconciously. She knew that this mission would probably be more hands-on than others because of the medical vessel they would be escorting.

Jonus, feeling thoroughly depressed and bored, listened intently. ~Cardassian Border~ he thought ~that means Id have have to slow to impulse before we hit it then go to warp with a 45 degree directional change, and the engines....~ he began to think. He was already plotting the course.

Raian sighed deeply as he entered Ten-Forward after a long, boring shift. He considered arranging some holo-deck time, but the first thing he wanted to do was to sit down and order himself a drink or something. As he looked around, the area didn't seem all that busy, but most of the crew was probably still on duty anyway. He decided on a Raktajino, and made his way to the bar.

Both Sam, Neveah, and Kathleen were silent.

Owen looked around the room before proceeding "Now i don't believe we'll be attacked but we have to be ready." The Captain's gaze fell onto Kathleen "Since you are no doubtebly taking notes for Lt Jane i advice you to tell her that i want our sensors arrays to be completely configured and arranged. We only have short range due to the early departure from Deep Space Nine."

He took another glance around the room before proceeding "Mr Falx when we reach the leviathan system, take us into impulse and on an intercept course for the USS Gale. If there aren't any questions, dismissed" Owen said as he waited for any questions or people to get out of there seats.

Kathleen nodded, and jotted down another note on her PADD. As soon as the Captain dismissed them, she turned and deliberately strode out of the conference room and back towards the turbo-lift. Neveah also left, having no questions, but Sam stayed, and waited until the rest of the staff had filtered out. He then turned to the Captain.

"So, should we expect much contact with the Cardassians?"

[Jonus]

"Aye sir" Jonus said, then got up as he was dismissed. He was disappointed; he thought there would be more to the meeting. ~ah well, new crew and all that~ he thought

Owen stood up from his chair when Sam walked up to him with a question, inside he smiled. Commanders always usually gave there questions after the mission which was sort of amusing. Owen looked Sam in eye as wondered how to answer. "I doubt it, we're not exactly going to right next door to their border, just near. Plus Cardassians aren't in the best shape to have a conflict with anyone, much less a lone federation ship with a new crew" Owen finished with an amused smile at the end.

Sam nodded and grinned back. "Understood."
